What's in YOUR Wallet?

When men come in to the office to get adjusted, they empty their pockets of keys, cell phones, and their wallet. Obviously, the wallet carries all the essential (and non-essential!) items that we may need throughout the day. But, what most of them don’t realize is how it can wreak havoc on your spine.   Sitting on a wallet causes the pelvis to shift which causes the low back to curve abnormally to compensate. This is especially problematic for those that have chronic low back issues. A simple solution: take the wallet out of the back pocket!!  This is advice I received from my chiropractor 20 years ago and it remains true to this day. Put your wallet in your front pocket, briefcase, or jacket pocket—wherever you want, as long as you don’t sit on it. Doesn’t matter how thick or skinny it is; sitting on an unlevel base will absolutely wreck your spine! So, guys: in between adjustments, make sure you keep those wallets out of your back pockets!!

Clark Cup At The Office

Today Jim Schroeder, head trainer for the Chicago Steel Hockey Team brought the Clark Cup into the office because Dr. Bucek was unable to attend the pictures at the stadium. we thought we would share some of the pictures. Pull Weeds, Not Your Back

With warmer weather finally here, a lot of people will start spending more time outside planting, mowing the lawn, and pulling weeds. With all that bending, twisting, reaching, and pulling, gardening can really cause a physical strain on your body. Therefore, we are seeing an increased number in patients who are experience stiffness, pain, and even injuries caused by doing yard work. Here are some tips that can help you have a pain- free gardening season. 1.      Warm up and Stretch: It is important to stretch your muscles properly before you gas up your mowers. It is important to remember when you are doing any form of exercise, you should always stretch before and after it. Start by warming up your muscles, we recommend taking a short, brisk walk. I've been in a car accident. Can I get chiropractic care?

You bet! In fact, seeking our care would be very wise since most injuries from a car accident are “soft tissue”-related; meaning muscles, ligaments, and/or tendons are injured. If you’re treated quickly after the accident, depending on the severity, recovery is usually pretty short (less than 4 weeks is pretty typical in our office). Unfortunately, the longer you wait after the accident for care, the recovery time is longer because of scar tissue formation. I always recommend that patients make an appointment on the same day the accident occurred. How do I know I should seek care after a car accident? Sometimes people don’t feel the effect from a car accident immediately, usually because of shock and the adrenaline rush. You might think to yourself “I’m fine, I’m fine. Nothing hurts.” But, after the accident, it’s common to feel tightness, stiffness, or pain in the neck or upper back after a couple of days.
