Slipping on Ice!

Image
I am sure a lot of people have already slipped and fell on ice due to the weather we are experiencing today. It hurts! You get up and shake it off and go about your day somewhat normal. You often times experience sore and stiffness for a week or two and then life goes on. What most people don’t realize is there are typically an underling injury that is causing that sore and stiffness in the body that get ignored.  This is why I stress the importance to get evaluated after a fall of any kind especially one involving slipping on ice! Why should you go see a Chiropractor after falling on the ice when there is no visible sign of injury? Untreated injuries sustained from falling on ice can often lead to long-term complications with your health down the road! A slip and fall often results in trauma to several of your body’s systems. Often times, your pelvis becomes rotated and twisted due to the impact of the fall. This injury will cause the rest of the spine to then shift out o...

Whats Happening at Bucek Chiropractic December 2017 Holiday Message From Dr. Bucek  This time of year, I often reflect back on the previous year and try to answer the following questions—“did I live this year in preparation for the next year?”, “what am I going to do next year to make it better than the last?”, and “am I doing all I can for my family?”  I think these questions also help someone reflect on their own health, too. Many people have New Years’ resolutions that often reflect around some aspect of their health—losing weight being number one! Looking back, seeing where you were can often help you adjust your perspective so that you can have a crisp vision of where you want to go. What are your goals for this New Year? Take a second and think about that. What vision do you have for yourself 12 months from now? Are you healthier than 2016? Did you travel more? Are you in a better financial situation? Did you take the time each day to make it better than the ...

Pain of Being Fit

Image
There’s certainly a price one pays to be fit and to maintain a certain level of fitness throughout their lifetime. Fitness is an anabolic (building) and catabolic (breaking down) process that occurs in tandem throughout out muscles and joints. When we enter the weight room or start our daily run, this natural response of physiology takes over and not even professionals are immune to the risk of developing potential injuries from the very activities that were intended to build health in the first place. So, yes, exercise can be hazardous to your body. It isn’t uncommon for me to see a professional athlete in the office with a muscle or joint issue. They spend countless hours training, building and breaking their bodies down to become exceptional at performing sport specific muscle movements. It happens to everyone—you are not alone. Our best bet is to prepare ahead and develop preventative habits that will combat these negative outcomes so we spend less time taking steps back...

Flu Shot 101 According to the CDC, this year’s flu shot has an effectiveness of 48% . Last year its effectiveness was 47% , but in 2014 it was as low as 19%. There are many “strains” of the flu that circulate the globe every year, meaning it is hard for the CDC to know which strains to focus on specifically. All year long, 142 national influenza centers in 113 different countries collect data on the flu viruses monitor which strains of the virus are making people sick, how efficiently those strains are spreading, and how well previous vaccines have worked to combat their targeted viruses. All of these smaller centers then pass the results from their wide-reaching investigations to one of five World Health Organization Collaborating Centers for Reference and Research on Influenza: the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (the “CDC”) in Atlanta, Georgia; the National Institute for Medical Research in London, UK; the Victoria Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory in Melb...
